GALLERIES FROM OUR 2024 EVENT
OPENING NIGHT
FRIDAY 4 OCTOBER 2024
Thank you for joining us on our beautiful opening night, and a special thanks to Lakis Christidis, President of Hydra's Cinema Club, for the use of their stunning and historic cinephile venue, the Gardenia Open-Air Cinema. We were delighted to surprise many of you with the Greek premiere of the internationally acclaimed La Cocina, presented by its lead actor, the renowned Mexican star Raúl Briones, who engaged in a wonderful Q&A with ArtCinema Founder Amanda Palmer.
ART, MUSIC & CULTURAL EVENTS
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER 2024
We loved how Saturday began with our guests exploring Hydra’s vibrant art scene, as local artist Dimitris Fousekis unveiled his collaborative work-in-progress exhibition with young Hydriots, inspired by filmmaker Tim Burton and US artist George Condo. Fousekis also led intimate tours of home studios, including those of Hydra-based French artist Tom Powell, and Jacqueline Savidge and David Irlam. Stephen Collerado-Mansfeld, founder of the Old Carpet Factory, along with his business partner, sound engineer Vassilis Korres, gave a tour of their recording studio, followed by an unforgettable performance from acclaimed Polish pianist Marcin Masecki.
PUBLIC SCREENINGS AT GARDENIA
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER 2024
Later, filmmaker Oliver Bruck, an inaugural ArtCinema alumnus, presented a work-in-progress of his film Mirella, which has been mentored by ArtCinema over the past six months. The evening concluded with screenings of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice and The Warhol Effect, introduced by British producer-director duo Paul Toogood and Lloyd Stanton.
CLOSING NIGHT AT KAMINI PORT
SUNDAY 6 OCTOBER 2024
Closing Night took place at a new and much-loved screening venue—the historic Kamini port—where our "Cinema & Souvlaki" event welcomed Greek filmmaker and screenwriter Yannis Sakaridis, Artistic Director of the Drama International Short Film Festival (DISFF), along with special guest Leonidas Christopoulos, the newly appointed CEO of Creative Greece. We were delighted to screen two episodes of So Long, Marianne, filmed in Hydra last year, with British producer Richard Tulk-Hart of Buccaneer and Tanweer Productions' Nancy Kokalaki and Dionyssis Samiotis expressing their gratitude to the community for its support. A highlight of the evening was an impromptu speech by 93-year-old Stamatis Vlachodimitris, a local Kamini resident, accordion player, boatman, and friend of Leonard Cohen.
